EV questions

Questions EV and hybrid drivers ask us.

Is my high-voltage battery covered?Yes. If individual high-voltage cells fail unexpectedly, we cover replacing them — up to £1,500 per claim on an electric car and £1,000 on a hybrid — until the car is 9 years old or has done 70,000 miles, whichever comes first.
What about losing range over time?Gradual loss of battery capacity isn’t covered. It’s normal ageing rather than a failure, so it’s left out of the cover, along with fast-charge and environmental damage.
Are charging cables and charge points covered? No. The car’s own battery charger is covered. Charging cables, wallboxes and public chargers aren’t part of the cover.
Can I use any garage?Yes — any VAT-registered garage in the UK. Just call us on 020 4577 0371 before any work starts, so we can authorise the claim.
Is my plug-in hybrid covered?Yes. Hybrid & PHEV cover protects the petrol or diesel engine, gearbox and final drive as well as the electric motor, motor control and high-voltage battery.
Is the 12V battery covered? No. Ordinary 12V and auxiliary batteries are service items and aren’t covered, on any car.
