The 7 real reasons a claim gets rejected
- The component was never covered. check the covered-parts list specifically for the expensive components your model actually has, before you buy.
- It was wear, not failure. a warranty covers sudden, unexpected failure, not a part reaching the end of its designed life.
- The fault already existed. cover protects against future failures, not anything present or symptomatic before the policy started.
- Servicing was missed or undocumented. service on time and keep every invoice — a documented history is the single biggest factor in a claim standing up.
- Repairs were started without authorisation. one phone call before any spanner is lifted, every time, however obvious the fault seems.
- Modifications or incorrect repairs. remapping, performance parts and non-standard components can void cover on affected systems.
- Consequential and secondary damage. stop driving when a warning light appears, and arrange recovery and hire through the provider so it falls within the policy.
Six of the seven reasons are about evidence and timing rather than bad faith on either side — the provider needs to establish what failed, why, and that the car was maintained as required, and anything that makes those three things harder to prove makes a decline more likely. The same short list of habits protects almost every claim: service on time and keep the paperwork, stop when a warning light appears, call before authorising work, and get the failure described properly in writing. ClearPath reimburses recovery up to £60 including VAT and hire up to £45 per day for up to seven days on an authorised claim — arranging both through us, rather than privately, keeps them inside your cover.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the most common reason a warranty claim is rejected?
The component not being covered by the policy in the first place. Cheaper policies often exclude specific high-cost items such as the turbocharger, DPF or air-conditioning compressor while still describing themselves as comprehensive.
Can a claim be declined for missing a service?
Yes, and it can affect a claim on a component unrelated to the missed service. Policies require servicing in line with the manufacturer's schedule with documented evidence, so keep every invoice as well as the stamps.
Why does starting the repair early cause a problem?
Once the car is stripped and the failed part is gone, nobody can verify what failed or why. Work started before authorisation is not recoverable on essentially any policy, even where the fault itself was covered.
Do modifications affect my warranty?
They can. Remapping, performance parts, suspension changes and towing beyond the manufacturer's limits may void cover on the affected systems or the whole policy. Declare any modifications before buying cover.
What should I do if my claim is rejected anyway?
Ask for the decision in writing, citing the specific clause, and read that clause against your policy document. If you think it's wrong, request a review and consider an independent engineer's report — every UK provider must operate a formal complaints procedure.
